ABOUT ME AND HPC

I was born in Sidi Lakhdhar (ex. Lavarande), Algeria. A small agricultural city in the Algerian countryside. I finished my engineering degree in Algeria at the École nationale Supérieure d’Informatique (ESI ex. INI), the most prestegious Grande École in Algeria.

During my engineering degree, I focused on developing a high performance routing application, similar to Google Maps. The frontend and backend of the application are developed in C++14, the most recent standard at the time. The application is open source and is available on my GitHub page (devacus-backend and devacus-frontend).

After graduating, I spent a year working as a research assistant with the Laboratoire des Méthodes de Conception des Systèmes at the same école. I wrote algorithms to process 3D MRI brain images in order to extract tumorous regions, if exist. I used technologies such as Caffe, a machine learning framework by Berkley. A code to transform the dataset into small 2D patches and train using Caffe is published in GitHub (Convert, Train).

I got my PhD degree from Université Polytechnique Hauts de France (UPHF) after working for 3 years on hardware accelerators for machine learning with a focus on embedding these accelerators on autonomous vehicles. My thesis was supervised by Pr. Smail Niar of the UPHF and Pr. Fadi Kurdahi from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). The results of my thesis are published in top design automation conferences (DATE, ICCD) and journals (IEEE Design and Test). During this work, we also got a regional press appearance in La Voix du Nord.

Currently, I am working at Universität Basel as a postdoc focusing on porting HPC applications to GPUs. For the time being, I am included in the SPH-EXA project.
