ABOUT ME IN HPC

I was born in ElMinia, Egypt. I received my B.Sc. degree in Computers and Systems Engineering in 2009 from the Faculty of Engineering, Minia University, Egypt.

Since 2009, I was working as a teaching assistant at Computers and Systems Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Minia University. In 2014, I obtained the M.Sc. degree in the field of fault-tolerant scheduling on multiprocessor systems on chip (MPSoC).

I am also very interested in parallel architectures and understanding the interaction between software and hardware and how to optimize software for the best performance. My research interests include parallel programming, computer architecture, scheduling, and load balancing, performance measurement and optimization, fault tolerance, and performance simulation.

As of February 2016, I joined the High-Performance Computing Group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Basel, Switzerland as a Ph.D. student to conduct my doctoral studies in the field of robust scheduling on high-performance computers. My doctoral studies were conducted as part of the MLS and the SPH-EXA projects.

In 2020, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis entitled “Design of Robust Scheduling Methodologies for High Performance Computing” at the University of Basel and graduated with Magna Cum Laude. ( Thesis

Since March 2020, I work as a postdoc researcher in the HPC group at the University of Basel, extending upon my findings during my doctoral studies to improve applications performance via robust load balancing.

My current responsibilities as postdoc include:
      1. Research in the field of robust dynamic load balancing for high-performance parallel applications
      2. Developing dynamic load balancing libraries for OpenMP and MPI
      3. Representing the University of Basel at the MPI standard Forum
      4. Simulating applications performance on large scale HPC systems.
      5. Teaching and supervising master and bachelor students at the University of Basel.
